Menstrual cramps are a discomfort many women experience during their menstrual cycle. The symptoms can range from mild pain to severe muscle spasms, and they can last anywhere from a few minutes to hours on end. Menstrual cramps can be reduced with painkillers but taking too many pains relief drugs for long time can have some serious side effects. If looking for some ayurvedic remedies to reduce menstrual pain, here is some tips shared by Vaidya (Dr) Piyush Juneja.
Eat foods with Omega 3s and 6s like fish, nuts, flaxseed, and spinach etc.
Herbs and spices like Ashwagandha, ginger, methi can help relieve menstrual cramps. You can male herbal tea suing these herbs or take them in the form of pills.
Chamomile is a soothing herb that can be helpful in relieving cramps and other discomfort associated with periods.
Exercise regularly and practise yoga to help relieve stress and tension. Daily exercising for 30 minutes not only improves blood circulation in uterus but also alleviates stress level.
You can also try out herbal remedies like Dabur Ashokarishta that is especially formulated with medicinal plants like Ashoka, Haritaki, Amlaki, Dhataki etc to help reduce menstrual cramps and regulate period cycle. Rich in anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, daily intake of Dabur Ashokarishta helps alleviate cramps and discomfort. You can take 1 to 2 tablespoonful (15 to 30ml) with equal quantity of water after meals or as directed by the physician.
