Q What is Stress according to Ayurveda? A In Ayurveda, one’s health is directly related to his or her mind’s condition (mana). All doshas: Kapha, Pitta, and Vata are affected by mana. Any disbalance in any of the doshas has direct effect on one’s body, mind and soul, as per Ayurveda. Q How can we identify that our child is in stress? A The primary symptom by which you can recognize your child is under stress is the lack of concentration that makes all tasks difficult. There is an internal fear of events and there is always a negative feeling and makes things more difficult. You can also notice that his/her memory power has weakened. The emotional symptoms include grimness, short temper, constant irritability, confining self to loneliness and excessive depression. As for the physical symptoms, there can be nausea, pains, diarrhea, speedy heartbeat, chest pain and frequent cold, breathing trouble, sleeplessness. There is also high blood pressure, back ache and a decreased immunity. Q What are the non-medicine ways to get relief in stress for children? A Meditation works perfectly for relieving stress and clearing the mind off all the worries. It also improves the rate of the heart and creates calmness within the mind. Make sure your child works out regularly or participates in outdoor sports as it is another best stress buster. It frees mind from all the negative thoughts and gives freshness. This is because the blood flow of the body increases and activates the brain cells. Walking and jogging daily is a must. Some food items that can help in coping with stress include all kind of berries, almonds, amla, warm milk, walnuts, coconut, fruit such as pears, apples. These items, besides being good stress busters, are also good anti-oxidants. Q What are the herbal remedies for Stress? A There are several herbs that nature has provided us that help in easing the stress. Examples of such herbs are ashwagandha or with ania somnifera, Brahmi, Jatamansi, chamomile.
