Margao: Union minister of state for tourism and former Ayush minister Shripad Naik said that while today “the entire world has understood the significance of ayurveda”, the alternative medicine tradition remained neglected for decades after Independence “due lack of adequate government support”.
“Yoga and ayurveda are the gifts of tradition ha-nded over to India by sages for thousands of years. They remained neglected after Independence. Now besides India, the world has turned towards yoga and ayurveda after Prime Minister Modi gave the two traditional systems the much-needed thrust,” said the North Goa MP. Naik was speaking at a function held to launch an Ayurveda product.
Dr S M Raju, speaking on the occasion, said that with the many advancements and research in ayurveda, the alternative medical system has gained popularity.
“India is heading towards becoming vishwaguru in ayurveda,” he said.
