Tourism as growth engine

Tamil Nadu aims to attract investments of INR 20,000 crore in tourism over the next five years. The state's first tourism policy declared tourism as an industry to facilitate investments. The government needs to focus on initiatives such as marketing tourism offerings, collaborating with tour operators, and developing infrastructure. Medical and wellness tourism is expected to grow, with Tamil Nadu already having a 40% share in India's medical tourism revenue. Promoting made-in-Tamil Nadu products and creating an investor-friendly environment are also emphasized. The state aims to strengthen public-private partnerships for tourism development.
