NAGPUR: Highlighting the transformative power of ayurveda, Union minister Nitin Gadkari emphasised that this ancient medical science has cured numerous incurable diseases like cancer, asthma, and gastrointestinal issues. It must evolve to stay relevant in the rapidly advancing world of healthcare," said Gadkari while speaking at the inauguration of the Shree Vishwa Lecture Series and National Ayurveda Festival in Nagpur on Friday.
Organised by the Sri Vishwati Ayurvedic Hospital and Research Centre along with the Sri Sadguru Vishwanath Maharaj Rukdikar Trust, the three-day event is dedicated to ayurveda's importance in modern times.
Gadkari acknowledged the effectiveness of treatments like Panchakarma in curing chronic ailments and noted that research in ayurveda has already made significant progress. However, he underscored that more effort is needed in terms of innovation, especially in diagnosis and medicine quality.
"The credibility of ayurveda and its therapies is our greatest capital," he said, urging the community to maintain and build upon this trust globally.
Distinguished personalities in the field of ayurveda like Anandanath Maharaj, president of the Sadguru Vishwanath Maharaj Rukdikar Trust, Rajesh Kshirsagar, executive president of the Maharashtra State Planning Commission, Dr Jayant Devpujari, president of the Govt of India's Indian System of Medicine, and Suresh Sharma, director of Baidyanath Ayurved, were present on the occasion.
Over 3,000 delegates from across India are expected to attend the festival which inlcudes a plethora of activities, including an ayurveda expo, free health check-up and treatment camps, and a series of health awareness lectures.
The lecture series, which will continue for the next two day will be offering valuable insights for all age groups. Senior citizens will be treated to talks on healthy ageing and mananging common geriatric issues. Also, there would be talks on health concerns specific to women. Ayurvedic experts will be shedding light on the importance of 'Dincharya and 'Rutucharya', the daily and seasonal ayurvedic routines that promote holistic well-being.
To foster interest in ayurveda among youngsters, the festival will have an 'Ayurkoushalyam' poster/painting competition for BAMS students. Also, 'Jyotishmati-5', a national-level intercollegiate ayurveda quiz will be held for ayurveda quiz will be held for ayurvedic scholars.
'Shree Vishwasmriti Ayurveda Sanman Puraskar' will be conferred on distinguished ayurveda practitioners on September 22.
