Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has emphasised that medical tourism is an emerging sector and holds immense potential in Madhya Pradesh. He directed that, along with the Health Department, the AYUSH Department should also play an active role in promoting this sector. Speaking at a review meeting of the AYUSH Department held at the Mantralaya, Dr. Yadav said that wellness centers should be established near tourist, religious, and spiritual destinations across the state. These centers can provide visitors with access to natural therapies and Panchakarma treatments offered by the AYUSH Department.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, AYUSH, and Technical Education, Shri Inder Singh Parmar; Chief Secretary, Shri Anurag Jain; Additional Chief Secretary (CM Office) Dr. Rajesh Rajora; Principal Secretary Finance Shri Manish Rastogi; Principal Secretary AYUSH Shri D.P. Ahuja; and other departmental officials.
Accelerate the Establishment of New Ayurveda Colleges under the National AYUSH Mission
Dr. Yadav directed officials to speed up the opening of new Ayurveda colleges under the National AYUSH Mission. He emphasised that the Health and AYUSH departments should work in close coordination to provide effective patient care through their respective systems of medicine. He also called for expansion in employment-oriented education so that the state can produce more doctors and Ayurvedic medical officers.
Significant Progress in Recruitment of AYUSH Personnel
The Chief Minister appreciated the department for successfully posting over 543 Ayurvedic Medical Officers, 36 Homoeopathy Officers, 14 Unani Medical Officers, 65 Ayurvedic Lecturers, and more than 150 paramedical staff and contract data entry operators. He expressed satisfaction that AYUSH doctors are now available even in rural areas. Dr. Yadav also instructed strict action against unqualified practitioners (quacks) who endanger lives by offering unauthorised treatment in villages.
Extend AYUSH Services to Remote Areas
Dr. Yadav reiterated that the government's priority is to provide high-quality, traditional healthcare to citizens. He noted the growing public interest in Ayurvedic treatments across the country and the state. He directed the department to strengthen infrastructure and human resources for Ayurveda, Unani, Homoeopathy, and Naturopathy services. Public awareness campaigns should be intensified to build trust in AYUSH therapies, especially in remote rural areas. He also suggested that Ayurvedic colleges be affiliated with nearby multi-disciplinary universities to facilitate teaching and treatment activities.
Madhya Pradesh Ranks 5th Nationally in Nature Profiling Campaign
AYUSH Minister Shri Inder Singh Parmar shared that under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s “Nature Profiling of the Nation” campaign, Madhya Pradesh has conducted over 8.5 lakh nature-based health assessments, securing the 5th position nationwide.
Yoga Institute to Be Set Up in Khajuraho
Principal Secretary AYUSH informed that efforts are underway to establish a Yoga Institute in Khajuraho (Chhatarpur district). A proposal has been submitted to the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy. The Collector of Chhatarpur has allotted 25 acres of land for the institute near Khajuraho in the village of Kharrohi. The site has already been inspected by a central government team, and further action is expected soon. A proposal is also under consideration to set up an Inter-University Center for Yogic Science in Khajuraho.
All India Institute of Ayurveda Proposed in Ujjain
A proposal for establishing an All India Institute of Ayurveda in Ujjain with central government support is under active consideration. The state has submitted a Greenfield proposal as requested by the central government.
11 New Ayurveda Colleges to Be Established
The Principal Secretary informed that 11 new Ayurveda colleges will be opened in the state, including one in Dindori district. Under the National AYUSH Mission, a 50-bed Ayurveda hospital in Bhopal and a 30-bed hospital in Narsinghpur are nearing completion.
Four Public Health Programs Running under AYUSH
The department is operating four public health programs: Ayurvigyan Program – 85,243 students educated, Supraja Program – 24,442 pregnant women benefited, Vayo Mitra Program – 17,975 elderly citizens served, and Vyatvyadhi Program (Joint & Bone Disorders) – 26,153+ patients treated.
