Delhi Cabinet approves State AYUSH Society to boost healthcare, infrastructure

In the 10th cabinet meeting, the Delhi government has approved the formation of the Delhi State AYUSH Society (DSAS) to implement the National AYUSH Mission (NAM), the Union health minister Pankaj Singh said.

The DSAS will serve as the primary body for executing NAM initiatives across Delhi, with a focus on the development and promotion of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) systems of medicine.

According to the officials, the society will ensure that it aligns with the mission's objectives, oversee fund utilisation, and manage promotional activities. It will function as a registered body, responsible for coordinating and monitoring AYUSH-related initiatives by adhering to NAM guidelines.

Currently, there are 57 Ayurvedic, 28 Unani and 121 Homoeopathic dispensaries, hospital units in Delhi with a dedicated team of more than 150 doctors. Directorate of AYUSH said.

Pankaj Singh told PTI: "I welcome the Cabinet's decision to approve the formation of the Delhi State Ayurveda Society. This move will greatly benefit the people of Delhi. Under its guidelines, a wide range of services and infrastructure in the AYUSH sector will be developed. We are committed to strengthening healthcare facilities and ensuring that Ayurveda becomes more accessible. We are working to enhance facilities at Panchakarma hospitals and other related institutions, ensuring that every promised health service is delivered effectively."

"The benefits of this society will go to the residents of Delhi. We will develop Asha Society in line with the central government's guidelines and support. All the promises we have made for improving healthcare will be fulfilled, this is a step in that direction," the health minister said.

The formation of DSAS is expected to strengthen AYUSH infrastructure, ensure better resource allocation, and increase access to traditional systems of medicine in the national capital.
