To bridge traditional medical wisdom with modern scientific perspectives and reach global audiences, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has launched a special digital dialogue initiative titled 'AyurVarta'.
Unveiled ahead of the annual Ayurveda Day on September 23, the multi-part series will feature in-depth discussions with leading physicians, academicians, and researchers. The episodes will cover contemporary healthcare challenges, evidence-based clinical practice, scientific research, and the expanding international footprint of Indian traditional medicine.
As an autonomous institution operating under the Ministry of Ayush, AIIA will stream the series across its official social media channels, including YouTube, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram.
The inaugural episode of AyurVarta featured a conversation between Prof. (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA, and Prof. (Dr.) Mahesh Vyas, Dean (Ph.D.), focusing on the theme: "Why is Ayurveda Day celebrated on 23 September?"
During the session, the academic leaders discussed the transition of Ayurveda Day to a designated annual calendar date of September 23 to establish a consistent, unified global identity.
Key insights highlighted during the discussion include:
Concept of Equilibrium: Prof. Dr. Mahesh Vyas explained that September 23 aligns closely with the Autumnal Equinox, a natural phenomenon where day and night reach equal duration globally. This balance mirrors the foundational Ayurvedic principle of physical, mental, and environmental equilibrium (Samatva).
Global Recognition & Identity: Director Prof. P. K. Prajapati emphasized that designating a fixed date provides the annual celebration with a structured, consistent identity globally, facilitating international participation among research institutes, universities, and healthcare organizations.
AyurVarta is designed as an ongoing, open-access digital platform intended to serve students, young practitioners, biomedical researchers, and the general public. Upcoming episodes will focus on translational research, public health initiatives, interdisciplinary clinical protocols, and sustainable natural product development.
This digital outreach effort reflects modern developments in Ayurveda education, where academic institutions utilize multimedia tools to present traditional clinical knowledge in an engaging, scientifically validated format.
