In a historic milestone for traditional wellness and modern digital outreach, the Ministry of Ayush has officially set a new Guinness World Record for the “Most Viewers for a YouTube Live Yoga Stream.”

Organized in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) and tech-wellness platform Habuild, the landmark global event drew a staggering 4,35,831 verified concurrent viewers from over 130 countries. The achievement shattered the previous world record of 2,46,252 viewers set in 2024 by an impressive margin of nearly 1.9 lakh participants.

A Global Movement: Practicing the Common Yoga Protocol Together

Broadcast live across official channels, the 80-minute online session brought together students, medical practitioners, senior citizens, and wellness enthusiasts from around the world. Guided by expert instructors, participants simultaneously performed the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) from their homes, workplaces, and community hubs.

To make participation seamless and inclusive, the ministry introduced direct registration via WhatsApp and a toll-free missed-call portal. All verified participants received digital participation certificates, transforming a routine broadcast into an interactive global gathering.

Key Highlights of the Historic Event:

  • Global Footprint: Enthusiasts from over 130 countries logged in simultaneously.

  • Record Breakdown: 4,35,831 concurrent viewers surpassed the previous benchmark by 1,89,579.

  • Digital Integration: E-certificates were delivered automatically via WhatsApp to registered participants.

  • Leadership Participation: Senior leaders and ministers joined the session live from their homes to promote leading by example.

Beyond One Day: Driving the 'Yoga 365' Vision

Addressing the global audience, Union Minister of State for Ayush Shri Prataprao Jadhav emphasized that the record reflects a growing global shift toward preventive healthcare.

"Today’s achievement demonstrates the extraordinary power of Yoga to connect people across regions, cultures, and nations through a shared commitment to health and well-being. This record reinforces our collective resolve to make Yoga an integral part of daily living," Minister Jadhav stated.

Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha reiterated that the initiative aims to move beyond a single annual event. The underlying goal is to embed the spirit of "Yoga 365" and "Har Ghar Yoga, Har Din Yoga" into everyday routines worldwide.

Leading Up to International Day of Yoga 2026

This record-setting digital session serves as a major prelude to the main celebrations of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026. Celebrated under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" (स्वस्थ आयु के लिए योग), the campaign highlights Yoga's vital role in supporting physical mobility, cognitive health, and emotional stability as populations age globally.

As India prepares for the flagship national IDY event in Kolkata, West Bengal, this record stands as proof that ancient Indian wisdom, powered by modern digital connectivity, continues to unite the world under a shared banner of holistic health.
