Giving traditional dietary wisdom a modern regulatory framework, India’s Food Safety and Standards Authority (FSSAI) has created a new category called “Ayurveda Aahara”. This allows manufacturers to seek licenses for foods based on classical Ayurveda texts. The move comes at a time when the Ayurvedic market in India is valued at ₹74,900 crore and projected to reach ₹3.2 trillion by 2032. The new licensing regime covers foods such as Sukhaparaka (baked wheat products), Pana (drink preparations), and Gulodaka (jaggery water), while excluding ayurvedic drugs or proprietary medicines. Experts believe this will enhance consumer trust, provide clarity for businesses, and boost India’s Ayurvedic food sector.
