Landmark Partnership: AIIA Signs MoU with General Insurance Council to Offer Cashless Ayurveda Across 32 Insurers

In a historic move that bridges traditional medical care with mainstream financial infrastructure, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has signed a landmark Common Empanelment Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Insurance Council (GIC).
This agreement marks the first time an autonomous Ayush apex institution has entered into a single-window empanelment pact with the General Insurance Council. Under the historic deal, AIIA is now officially empanelled with all 32 general insurance companies operating under the Council, enabling policyholders to access seamless, cashless Ayurvedic healthcare services without upfront financial strain.
Eliminating Upfront Costs for Patients
Historically, even when health insurance policies included AYUSH benefits, patients undergoing specialized Ayurvedic therapies were forced to pay out-of-pocket and endure lengthy reimbursement cycles.
The new agreement eliminates this friction completely. Patients admitted for eligible Ayurveda-based medical treatments at AIIA’s referral hospital can now avail of direct, cashless bill settlement through their respective insurance providers.
The agreement was formally executed by Prof. (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA, and Shri Segar Sampathkumar, Director (Health) at the General Insurance Council, in the presence of Prof. Bejon Kumar Misra, Chairman of the Core Group of Experts on Ayush Health Insurance.

To ensure policyholders can easily navigate claim procedures and understand their coverage benefits, the Ministry of Ayush has also introduced a dedicated Ayush Health Insurance Helpline.

The helpline acts as a single-window guidance center to resolve beneficiary queries, streamline claim processing issues, and educate the public on insurance rights under IRDAI guidelines.
Transforming Institutional Ayush Care
Speaking on the development, AIIA Director Prof. (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati stated that the collaboration will significantly improve healthcare access, affordability, and public confidence in evidence-based Ayurveda.
This policy milestone is also expected to influence Ayurveda education and clinical hospital management. As insurance integration becomes standard practice, Ayurvedic teaching hospitals will increasingly adopt standardized billing codes, structured treatment protocols, and modern hospital administration workflows alongside classical clinical care.
As the government continues to promote integrative medicine nationwide, this partnership establishes a strong operational model for making time-tested healing traditions financially accessible to every citizen.
