Varanasi: The Sarv Dev Ayurvedic Medical College at Itaura Chandeshwar in Azamgarh district was inaugurated by Guru Gorakhnath Ayush University Vice-Chancellor Prof A.K. Singh on Monday.
Addressing the inaugural event, Prof. Singh said Ayurveda is a lifestyle that everyone should adopt to stay healthy. He emphasised that teachers involved in Ayurvedic medicine should focus on quality to improve it. A harmonious relationship between students and teachers can help create a healthier society through Ayurveda.
Prof Singh further mentioned that Varanasi was once a major centre for Ayurveda in the state, but it lagged due to lack of focus on quality. He noted that for the first time, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath, significant attention is being given to improving health through Ayurvedic medicine. He explained that Ayurveda is based on daily routines and seasonal dietary arrangements.
He urged the teachers and students of the Ayurvedic college to raise awareness about Ayurveda in five adopted villages and emphasised the importance of specialisation in the field.
Speaking on the occasion, Maharaja Suheldev State University Vice-Chancellor Prof Pradeep Kumar Sharma highlighted the the importance of Ayurvedic medicine in social upliftment and stressed the need for quality. He called upon the management, teachers, and students, to work on the principle of ‘learning by doing' from the National Education Policy. Prof Sharma stated that education should be enriched with knowledge, values, and culture, as humanity is the primary focus after becoming a physician.
Rajya Sabha member Ashok Bajpai said with global attention on Ayurvedic medicine, India's responsibility has increased. He emphasised the need to focus on the quality of Ayurvedic medical practices, as the country's prestige is rising globally with the expansion of Ayurveda. He urged the college to produce such physicians that the world recognises their excellence. College principal Nilesh Masurkar assured the attendees that the college would provide excellent education in Ayurveda, producing skilled Ayurvedic doctors who would bring fame to the institution across the country.
