New Delhi: In a major milestone for the global recognition of Ayurvedic surgical sciences, the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, will grace the inaugural ceremony of Saushrutam 2026 on July 15, 2026.
The highly anticipated three-day international seminar is being hosted by the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi—an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush—from July 15 to 17, 2026. The prestigious event is organized annually on July 15 to celebrate Sushruta Jayanti, honoring Acharya Sushruta, widely revered across medical history as the "Father of Surgery."
The inaugural ceremony will also be graced by distinguished Guests of Honour, including Shri Prataprao Jadhav (Union Minister of State, Independent Charge, Ministry of Ayush), Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu (Lieutenant Governor of Delhi), Shri Ramveer Singh Bidhuri (Member of Parliament), and Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha (Secretary, Ministry of Ayush).
According to Prof. (Vd.) P. K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA, Saushrutam 2026 will serve as a landmark global platform for advancing evidence-based Ayurvedic surgery. The seminar seeks to bring the timeless clinical principles of Acharya Sushruta into harmony with contemporary surgical innovations.
This international platform aims to:
Strengthen academic and clinical collaborations between Ayurveda and modern medical systems.
Encourage high-quality scientific research in Shalya Tantra (Ayurvedic surgery).
Promote global excellence in surgical education.
The event features participation from leading surgeons, policymakers, and researchers worldwide, cementing India’s leadership in preserving and elevating its rich surgical heritage.
Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Badwe, Organising Chairman and Medical Superintendent at AIIA, and Dr. Vyasadeva Mahanta, Organising Secretary, highlighted key academic sessions spanning proctology, reconstructive surgery, integrative oncology, medico-legal issues, and intellectual property rights in surgery.
These scientific sessions will deeply analyze Acharya Sushruta’s core methodologies, including wound management, Agnikarma, Kshara Sutra, and Marma Chikitsa, demonstrating how classical Ayurveda education continues to address modern, complex medical challenges.
Beyond academic exchange, Saushrutam 2026 will witness two landmark launches:
AI-Driven 3 Tesla High-Field MRI System: A state-of-the-art diagnostic facility, installed at an investment of ₹14.5 crore, featuring BioMatrix technology and AI-enabled workflows, will be officially inaugurated at AIIA.
NCISM Career Study Release: A national research study titled "Evaluation of Professional Career of Ayurveda Female Graduates – An Observational Exploratory Study" by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) will be released, spotlighting women's progress and leadership in the Ayush sector.
The event stands out for its multidisciplinary approach. It brings together eminent academicians and researchers from countries like the United Kingdom, Thailand, Israel, Austria, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, and Greece.
Over 30 national stalwarts, including Padma Shri Prof. M. Sahu and Padma Shri Prof. K. K. Thakral, will collaborate with modern surgical experts from premier institutions like AIIMS, SGPGI Lucknow, and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. This collaborative approach directly bridges the gap between traditional Indian medical practices and modern surgical sciences.
